The idea is to make the little icon in the top left corner(assuming default oxygen settings) of any window become a sort of shortcut to the URI of the current file or webpage active in the application. This allows you to manipulate said file without having to navigate to it with a file manager.
There are many programs that have a "Navigate to file location" feature just so that you can manipulate the file that is staring you dead in the face. This just cuts out the middle man. Some use cases 1. John finishes his TPS reports and wants to mail them to mary. He drags the word processor title bar icon onto the (Hypothetical) Mary contact desktop widget. The widget asks john for an action. John selects email. Old process: Save file -> Create email -> add recipient -> attach file New process: Safe File -> Drag file uri to destination such as contact -> profit? 2. Moses sees the brand new Universe tablet pc online. He wants to share the news with some friends. He drops the Firefox icon on a share panel applet, which lets him choose how to share the news and with who. 3. Simon is a graphic designer. He wants to edit an image and then upload it to a webserver using FTP. Simon edits his image and then drags krita titlebar icon onto an FTP widget that is preconfigured to upload to the right place. |

note, that I would prefer to have a different File icon to the immediate left of the title text, then using the far left app icon.
so, for an image opened in Gwenview for example, the app icon showing the gwenview icon would not change. but left to the filename in the title bar, there would be a png/jpg icon that I could drag around. |

Thanks for replying. I see I posted this 5 years ago! I still think it would be a useful feature. I know you can drag a screenshot from spectacle to other windows. The clipboard widget also has that feature I think. Maybe you are right that it should be separate from the application icon. Not sure what I was thinking about that 5 years ago! |

I think, that Plasma Developers could add jump list (especially files) to icon menu and allow drag files from this list. There should also be possibility to open a file from this menu in other program.
