Hi,
I'd like to suggest a preview of all desktops when switching between desktops using the 'Switch to one desktop left/right/down/up' actions in kwin; as below: As you can see I run with 9 desktops in a 3x3 layout; I tend to bind the Switch to one desktop l/r/d/u to ctrl-alt-arrow; generally I know which desktop I've put stuff in, but sometimes I find I can't quite remember where I dropped something, and a preview would be nice. Gnome-2 provides a basic preview with just the window outlines in each view, and actually that would generally be enough, however I noticed that since Desktop Grid can do a full all desktop preview, it's really exactly the same content that I'd like to be shown when I'm switching. The mockup above was done by taking a screenshot of desktop grid, shrinking it and dropping it over the box that appears when switching (which I believe comes from Desktop Change OSD) and taking the arrow from that box and overlaying it back on top. Could open .png by cnp.
To me this sounds confusing - you want a live preview indication *while* you're switching? Do you know about the "walk through desktop list" shortcuts? (found in "kcmshell4 keys", kwin section) - it will invoke the normal window switcher but instead allow you to change virtual desktops. |

Odd; http://www.treblig.org/debug/slidemergesmall.png is fine here on chrome, firefox and Konq. Dave |

I didn't know about the 'walk through desktop list' - the preview it gives is pretty much what I want, but shown with the appropriate rows/column layout that the pager and move to desktop above/left/right/down know about. |

afaik the desktop switcher ist atm being ported to qml for 4.9 and will thus be configurable and should get a GUI -> Martin? |
