Hello. Since Kontact means, well, contact, I think it would be a good idea to integrate KDE Telepathy into Kontact since messaging, video conferenceing, and file transferring are all contact-centric. This especially makes sense to me considering that chat history will soon be added to Telepathy, thereby allowing Kontact to provide a nice framework to search and act on chat histories.
Another good useage case would be to simply see that a person was offline and email them from right inside Kontact, since you would already be there. Finally, it makes sense to have all of your interaction with people over time visually accessible from one common interface. Heck, if notes can make it into Kontact, certainly Telepathy can! There was a project started a while ago using Mozilla tools which aimed to do Telepathy integration into into a contact manager called Spicebird that can be used for reference: http://www.spicebird.com/ Finally, this type of deeper KDE integration would bring yet another great reason for people to use KDE PIM. Thoughts? |

just to make it explicit, integration with KaddressBook i.e. Akonadi Contacts would be awesome

apparently, Kde-Telepathy already uses Nepomuk to store contacts, as stated in their FAQ (also here).
I don't understand how the integration into KAddressBook or other apps work yet, but anyways your idea is much more extended and hopefully will come at some point: in the same FAQ, the chance of developing a Kpart or something to integrate into other apps is stated. Anyways, some ideas could maybe come here |

I sort of worked on exactly this. The idea is to push all the (needed) Telepathy data into Nepomuk (which we do now), merge it with contacts already there (from Akonadi for example) and then have a system-wide contacts in Nepomuk. That would allow you to do exactly what you proposed (and more). Pieces of the puzzle are ready, we just miss a proper robust library to take advantage of this. One such library is in the works and should be finished sometime May (hopefully), then people can start taking advantage of it and do the magic things
