It is really annoying when I receive some long URL in chat. I think that would be great integrate in Kopete a plugin which could do short URL something like tinyURL.

Hey, I'm not sure if that will make it into Kopete, as it's currently on its way out and isn't actively maintained anymore AFAIK.

However, as my GSoC project, I'm implementing a plugin framework and a set of plugins that do things like that to its replacement: KDE-Telepathy. I should be able to easily incorporate your idea to my project as an extra plugin.
