Hi everyone,
I've set up a personal server at home which we all use for backups. And, generally, my backing up consists out of choosing certain folders and copying them over onto the shared drive. The thing is, that while I've edited, updated or modified many of the files, many more are usually left unchanged. But, when I'm copying the files, this is the default window that pops up: This leaves me with three options: 1. Skip files that already exist. 2. Overwrite files that already exist. As my PC has the newest versions, I don't replacing the old files, but often the files are fairly large, especially when dealing with photos or .iso files. And replacing the files can take a considerable amount of time. Especially if I've only changed a few dozen of them. But, then I noticed that the copying dialogue box knows both the size and hash of the files: So I thought, wouldn't it be great if I could tell the computer that it can skip all the files that are identical, and overwrite only those that have been changed. So I was wondering if it would be possible to implement something like this (please pardon the horrible color difference): Where the "All" drop down list let's you select files that have either the same size or same hash. Of course the idea will have to be refined a bit more, but I think it would be great to only have to rewrite the files you've actually edited since your last backup. |
