Dolphin's tree view should have a button or shortcut to expand the folder structure tree. It's a missing standard feature to be able to have a look at the whole tree structure like the console program "tree" does. Why not add "expand all" and "collapse all" in addtion to the right arrow key to expand one tree branch to the next layer.
or even more easy make the right arrow work for multiple folders at once.

My preferred solution would be to have both:
- the right arrow key working on multiple selected folders at the same hierarchy level at once to quickly expand into the next subfolder level
- and a shortcut and/or button to expand all folders in the view window (maybe only selected) to the full subfolder tree with all their branches

To be honest, I think it's really annoying to be forced to expand every folder individually if I want to check whether 20 folders host a similar folder structure.
Or to search through many fodlers individually when I suspect I accidently moved a folder to a subfolder while dragging it but can't remember where.

thx for reading,

Sounds useful but if they should implement it, it shouldn't' be accidentally click prone. I wouldn't want to accidentally 'expand all' a folder with 100+ subfolders hanging my aging pc with a 100% cpu usage.

You can find file managers that already have two panes with tree structure:

Did you check other file managers?

Edit:
Sorry I misunderstood your idea. You are talking about expand all, collapse all feature. Anyway check other file managers.

The link is dead. It was supposed to show 4pane file manager that has tree view. I don't know if this one has this feature. I was suggesting to check other file managers for that feature because there are many file managers for Linux.
But if you wish to have it in Dolphin, that's a perfectly legitimate wish.

any news on the subject?
Pressing * multiple times in Nemo to expand all folders in recursive levels is a killer feature I can't give up.

Well, it's apparently still not a thing. Perhaps someone should just file a feature request to bugs.kde.org.

I did discover recently that if you hold the left arrow key then it will walk through each file and folder, expanding each folder as it goes. Granted it isn't instant like having a single shortcut key like * as is used by other file managers and gets tedious if there are a lot of files and folders to expand.

I change the version on this wish to make it more current, it was filed against a rather old Dolphin version (as in: very old!)

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

In the mean time I just found a partial workaround : since the right arrow key not only expands but also navigates down by one file after a folder is expanded, if you hold the key and let it auto-repeat, it will expand your folders downwards one by one. This is still unpractical on folders containing many files though.
