Desk Check App

Sun Jun 10, 2012 4:34 pm
Hello,

This brainstorm topic is about an idea I'm having in the last weeks but it's not yet very mature, so I decided to open this topic in order to evolve that idea.

I'd like to start writing a KDE-based software to aid in desk checking (as in <http://ironbark.bendigo.latrobe.edu.au/subjects/PE/2005s1/other_resources/desk_check_guide.html>). I've googled to find software that does something like that but found none, so I think the first step to mature this idea would be to define what should be its functionalities and what the UI should look like (I took a look at <http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Usability/HIG> and its subpages but no big help on creating something from scratch) by now I'm thinking of:
Two modes: "Design mode" to design the program flow, and "Run mode" to run the program flow, step by step
In design mode, one could define the steps of a program (I'm thinking of a flowchart-like thing instead of actual code) with descriptive text and maybe some predefined action(QtScript?)
In run mode, there would be an area to show the current step of the flow, another area (a QTreeView?) to define variables and show their "history" and options to go further and back in the flow (and maybe some text area to take notes)

I need some guidelines on how to start writing such kind of software, as I've never done something with that level of complexity ;)
