My idea is that to improve the out of the box 3D performance of KDE is to by default have KWin automatically suspend desktop effects whilst a full-screen application is open. Currently this is an easy to set option but is not the default. As far as I can tell there is no detriment to setting this as the default option.
This idea was originally from reviewing this Phoronix article: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a ... tops&num=1 |

actually we used to have that enabled by default, but had to disable it due to drivers crashing KWin whenever you unlocked the screen. Games are nice, but not so important that we choose a bad default for our users. What I think about the benchmark in question you can read in my blog post about it.
Anyway I also have an idea on how to be better for games and that is Bug #306448. |

Hi Martin, thanks for the link it was an interesting read. You make a lot of good points. And if this setting truly does cause issues for others then I agree it probably shouldnt be enabled by default at all.
