I am a regular player of emulators and "normally" while playing some version fails, the trouble is that the OS stay with the "low resolution" and can not reach the button below where it says "apply" changes.
Only with some skill you can, but do not wish anyone to start with KDE and battle with it. So this option is the most practical for me. |

Operating System doesn't take part on Unix systems for resolution any other than directin data to display adapter/chip.
The resolution is about windowing server like Xorg or similar and those limits it. The graphical user interface running on windowing server needs to have features to support then resolution changes on the fly without relogging or restarting itself or even windowing server. You do need some other software to do these changes. For KDE environment, you need to have a XrandR configuration software (used to configure RandR) what allows you to change display resolution on the fly. So please check do you have XrandR installed in your system (search package xrandr). It should be package "xorg-randr" or similar as it belongs to Xorg windowing server. When resolution is changed, the visible area is always started from top left corner. So if you have a window already open place it to top left corner. And what doesn't fit to display, you can move the window position with Alt+Left mouse button to move the window. Of course you can use KDE system settings own display module to change resolutions. Earlier KDE versions did have resolution options in desktop context menu, but it was causing lots of problems and it actually doesn't belonge there. And these days after 10 years you don't need to manually change resolution than in very rare cases. |
