Hi all,
I have a proposal about the initial kde settings that a user found when choosing a particular distro.
Having tried kde in various configurations, I realized that the impression you get of kde varies infinitely depending on theese default settings.
A friend of mine who tried kde said it is very bloat, but now that I arranged all the settings I can say that a minimal kde does not have much to envy to an openbox+tint2 configuration (the mine for years).

So from here the proposal:
at the first boot, show a window that asks the user to select the profile that is closest to him/her, such as

Code: Select all
-------------------------------
Choose your initial profile

        -> social <-
       -> eye-candy <-
     -> professional <-
      -> minimalist <-
-------------------------------

With some information like
Social: if you spend a lot of time in solcial network choose this profile, the semantic desktop is for you
Eye-candy: your hardware is powerful and you are an aesthetics guy bla bla
Professional: you use kde in production environment, work etc, you are a serious wo/man
Minimalist: remove all un-necessary things and services, if you have an old hardware this option may be for you

Hope I was clear..
The goal is to give a generic choice of how kde will be and don't lose users for a bad first impression.

It seems to not be a good idea after all :D
It don't worth the work or it is simply useless?
