[Menus & shortcuts] Unify!

Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:59 pm
Hi all :)

I just upgraded to KDE 4.10.00 (so many zeros... so many new things :)) on Archlinux and I got struck by this: I can split konsole's view! I knew I could do it in Konqueror, but not in Konsole... why? surely beacause both menus aren't organized the same way.

In Konsole, it goes like:
  • Display ("Affichage" in French)
    • Split view
      • Split right/left (Ctrl+()
      • Split top/bottom (Ctrl+))

In Konqueror:
  • Window
    • Split right/left (Ctrl+Shift+L)
    • Split top/bottom (Ctrl+Shift+T)

And I only took a look at the Split View option...

So in short:
Every menu containing some shared capabilities (such as split view, open/close tab) should all be in the exact same menu tree, with the same shortcuts (or at least, some very near ones)

(perhaps this will lead to think about shortcuts all over again: perhaps will Ctrl+Alt be dedicated to Desktops & window management ; Alt to some inner modification to the only program ; Ctrl for the default actions (copy, paste, split, send in an email or whatever), Ctrl+Win to some global shortcuts (krunner, open dolphin, open konqueror...))...
(This list of shortcuts was only provided as an example to show how to achieve unity -not Ubuntu's one-, not as a request)

BTW, thanks to all KDE devs for the awesome new version :D

KDE 4.10.1 Archlinux x86_64 on both laptops :)
