OS
  • FUSE user and developrs base is bigger then KIO
  • supports a lot of different protocols
  • it allows to access files from any application
  • works on a lot of OSes

Benefits for KDE:
  • any application can work with a file you can see in dolphin
  • support of a lot VFS not handled by KIO (for example: viewtopic.php?f=83&t=98153&p=316765 )
  • less KDE programmers time needed to support VFS protocols

Benifits for FOSS comunity:
  • less duplicated work
  • more improvements into single tool doing great job for all

Why I don't like tis proposal viewtopic.php?f=95&t=51830 and KioFuse mentioned there:
  • necessity to have 2 tools doing the same and a bridge to connect them
  • overcomplicated chain from data to programm: protocol X -> XKioSlave -> KIO -> KioFuse -> FUSE -> app instead of protocol X -> XFuseModule -> FUSE -> app
