You could use the search bar above the message list. That works well even without nepomuk. But it only searches the currently displayed folder(s). (You can select more than one folder by using Alt+click AFAIK) |

Yes this is truth but only for the subjects, i would be able to search in the body of the messages

The nepomuk search works. I have no idea why anybody would want to disable this framework, and I have no idea why developers would need to reimplement full text search in kmail, and later in other applications as well.

+1 And even more, this is not only about search within a single app (DB), but also across different apps (ie. documents). If you use an Google account nowadays (and lot of people do) you already have a cross search over google docs, news, etc. This is what people want and with NEPOMUK, they can have it without passing all there data to third persons. So IMHO the semantic search is IMHO exactly the way to go. A little offtopic.
I used to think that nepomuk is nothing more than a pure bloat, but after 4.9 and especially 4.10 I changed my mind. Now I think that it is one of the best things in KDE4! I love the krunner integration, it helps to save time on daily basis. |

I use only the KDE in my system (we have 3 computers at home, all with kde as the only enviroment) since 2007 and until now i dont use it , i dont see where i can use it , how, and what offers to me.
Instead, i used a lot the beagle in kde 3.5 and now the recoll. And now nepomuk is the reason for a lot of bugs in kmail, and makes my system slower, even in the kfile dialog i have to wait some seconds to load the informations with the stars. It is not useful and it takes the place of a real desktop search utility. I dont realy understand what it does in my system and i dont need it. The only thing that i see it that it bothers me. The goal is not to try to find a usage of a program, the goal is to need a program because it is useful. Since 2009 that nepomuk was announced as THE innovation of the desktop, i listen the same thing: "now it is not in its final step, wait a little to see , it is an incredible tool, very usefull, an innovation. But you have to wait..." I can say the same fo eg recoll, that is an incredible tool and we have to wait to see more from its development, or another program like kmail, which will see little by little that it has improvements that we use. I mean the good thing dont need to think a lot to understand that is good. You see this directly. |
