Google Images KIO protocol

Mon May 27, 2013 9:54 am
I think it would be nice to have a KIO protocol for a search images through Google Images.
Example:

What do you think about it?

What is the actual benefit over simply using a browser? You still would have to retrieve all images via http, so no speedup. The browser provides good caching, so also no gain in bandwidth.

Also keep in mind that Google generates a lot of its income by displaying ads along your google (image) search. In your approach I see no ads, ie. no income for google, I don't think they would be so happy about it (and Google is a patron of KDE).

Although the kio search might be faster then opening a browser, navigate to images.google.com and start typing your search queries, you will miss a lot of features, such as filter by color, grayscale, drawing, fotos, similar pictures etc. pp.

That's not required anyway, try "ggi:konqi" in krunner (or konqueror or any kfmclient, even "kfmclient openURL ggi:konqi" from konsole)
