Hi,
I have seen that Amarok has a Wikipedia plasmoid (where you can see the wiki article to the artist you are listening to, but no seach funtionality AFAIK). It would be nice to reuse (parts of) this code for a desktop widget. It should have one textbox, in which you type the word for searching wikipedia and next to it a drop-down list where you can change/switch the language. In it should only be displayed the article with images, but removed from all the decorations (wikipedia logo), edit, tools, other clutter etc. So this is not only about beeing to lazy to use the browser, but also about to have a nice clean result, which also nicely blends into you desktop (respecting the plasma theme). (The latter is especially useful when using dark themes and reduces eye strains.) |

If you switch to the mobile version of Wikipedia (using the applet's wrench) you will have a search box |

There a Web Browser plasmoid you can use for this and on kde-look.org there is a "quick search" and a "wikiviewer" plasmoids that may work (older and have not tested)

No, it doesn't remove the clutter and it doesn't respect the plasma theme, i.e. it doesnt blend in. It has less clutter (since it uses the mobile version), but still too much and it also doesn't blend in. What I wish for is something like the dictionary plasmoid, but for Wikipedia (hope that makes it clearer now). |
