First things first: I searched for this particular topic and couldn't find it. I don't know if this is the right place to bring this up, and if it is not, let me apologize right off the bat. Second, I am new to KDE, though not new to Linux. It has been years since I tried KDE, but now I'm using it with Korora 19 (a Fedora remix) and I am liking what I see. I have spent the last couple of weeks exploring KDE and finding out a lot of new and interesting things.

Despite the fact that this is a minor detail, something I find odd about the march of the icons on the splash screen at startup is the size of the icons; not so much the size of the icons, but the size of the KDE icon in relation to the others. You have the HD, tools, earth, desktop icons that are fairly the same size, and then the KDE icon is around twice the size of the others.

Hey, I get it: Maybe it's twice the size because you are proud of KDE, and the more I use it, the more I understand this pride is clearly justified. However, the icons in a row with one being much larger than the other look funny to me -- it reminds me of Berke Breathed's comic character Bill the Cat, which has one eye significantly larger than the other.

So my observation is three-fold: a.) Does anyone else find this a little odd?, b.) Would there be a place to formally ask for the reduction of the size of the KDE icon?, and c.) Is there a tutorial for making a splash screen so I can see if I can make what I think would work actually work?

Thank you.

hey there,
welcome to KDE :-) , I also started using the KDE desktop not so long ago (about a year ago).

And when I started, I also noted this little nuisances almost everywhere and also filled some bugs on BKO. However I soon found out there is actually no one to care :-(, so I stopped this rather soon and try now to overlook these issues... (but maybe you have more luck).

As to your issue, IMHO the sequence and sizes are very reasonable and understandable. First you have some smaller parts, which together then form the whole (big) part, the KDE desktop here.

However, if you want to change the splash screen or even do you own, I would suggest asking in the Workspace forum.

HTH and good luck :-)

I think it is up to the particular splash screen as to how big each icon is, or even if it uses icons. Many of the splash screens don't use icons, but have other animations to indicate the startup progress.
