Part of the file management process is sorting files, dolphin has basic support for this through search filter, side split screen and drag and drop to tabs titles, but the process gets rapidly tedious and time consuming. I think it could better a job at saving time than that.

I'm aware of bug 168592, while what I have in mind is based on split screens, it is something different, which hopefully uses mostly already available features of dolphin.

Usage scenario: Mister Raccoon starts to accumulate a mess of files he gathered and would like to sort them in directories. he turns file sorting mode in dolphin which splits dolphin vertically as it already does but instead of a second file view the right space contains file destination place holders shown visually a grid of square zones. He sets up as many of those as needed by clicking it which open a directory selection menu allowing to select a directory manually or from recent history of previously selected locations.
He then proceeds to find and select the files to sort in the left part and drag'n'drop them to the chosen location and repeats this step until the sorting process is over. As this He now save his selection of destinations in a profile to loaded next time.

Having a way to customize appearance to be able to see where your sending your files would be a nice to have and helpful in preventing mistakes.

What do you think ? Wouldn't this save many of us enough time to make it worth coding ?
