Desktop Folder behavior change

Sat Jan 04, 2014 3:32 pm
The semi transparent desktop folder is a nice way of keeping icons organized. However I feel two things would make it better:
Require right-click to show toolbar (a well known standard for a long time) thus keeping the clean look until modification is needed and not sliding out all the time even though I don't need it. Kind of like an annoying person who is over anxious; I'm here, I'm here!
Not change icon to reverse colors when clicked, but keep the rectangular box around it, thus maintaining the clean look.

These changes are very minor but I feel are two small details that creates a better look more in-line with the overall aesthetics of KDE.

I'm imagining these design points came about from a Gnome like idea that users are too dumb to figure out things and handle any complexity, which if true for someone, they will be happier with Gnome as KDE offers a lot of options and Gnome does not. Meanwhile as an artist these two points would be a nice fine-tuning of this otherwise flexible, yet consistent environment that I've used since it was created.

lock widgets (setting in desktop rmb menu or the "cashew") to prevent the "toolbar" from sliding out (on any widget)

Thanks for suggestion!
But then I have to lock and unlock it as routine which is not viable, and I still have the icon going into reverse video.

Humm?
Ok, besides "how often do you intend to do that a day": you explicitly asked for a rightclick requirement to get that handle.

With that I mean is that during normal conditions having the tool slide out is unwarranted as one seldom needs it. Whereas a right click for when you do has been standard (thus not a brand new concept which would confuse most).

Now locking down means I cannot do drag/drop without unlocking/locking.

The way I see it always popping up a tool because the mouse happens to pass over it is annoying aesthetically. It is very seldom needed but I have to see it all the time. In other words I find it backwards. Imagine the annoyance of having bars slide out on every app everywhere?

Just because this is the folder view and not "everywhere" is no reason to have it function in reverse.

Err what?
You mean like dragging an item into or out of the folderview?
That works here (regardless of whether the widgets are locked) and would probably be a bug.

Hmm, I see what you mean. If the widget lock only stops the toolbar I'm fine as far as that point goes. I had the idea it locks down all widgets to much for my practical use. (I do a lot of app testing, adding and removing stuff, but had not tested That aspect, silly of me.) Thanks!

Still would like to see the icon not go reverse video :)
