[Plasma] Advanced plasmoid manager

Sat May 03, 2014 4:30 pm
I’m proposing that KDE also has an advanced manager for all plasmoids.

I imagine this manager to be primarily of use for power users, so they can:

  • list all running plasmoids and see in which panel, activity or desktop they are;
  • show all the instances of the plasmoids, so the user can remove plasmoids;
  • show geography of the plasmoids, so the user can modify the location of the plasmoid in a fine-grained manner.

Some use-cases when I already wished I had this:
  • Sometimes I want to have plasmoids perfectly aligned, but not use the grid (although the grid is awesome!).
  • bkodama and the ilk are quite hard to kill sometimes – especially if you want to get rid of just a few specific instances.
  • On my brother’s laptop, for some reason he two notification windows showing up. If he removes the notification panel plasmoid, the other one still floats around. Even after comparing some of the obvious files in the ~/.kde4/share/, we couldn’t find how to fix this.

If there is such a thing already, I would love to have a go at it ;D

It's time to prod some serious buttock! ;)

I propose what you propose should be default features of plasmoid manager in Plasma 2. The current scroll-one-pixel-per-time-show-only-some is so retarded it needs to be replaced badly.
