I don't know X11 protocol, so I don't know if the idea is able to be realised.
Kwin stores resolution if some apps change it, so after restoring session, KWin brings new resolution. But there's application, such as games, which changes resolution only for live time(from process creation to process removes). For these application we don't must remember/store resolution. Imagine that some games missbehaving and hangs or segfault. User don't know how restore old resolution or he/she can't. KWin, of course, could monitor apps, wchich changes resolution to restore old on apps quit, but I don't know it can be realised,. so I decided post idea about remember resolution change only for some application. If the idea was realised, user can only logout and login again or kill X session to restore selected(or default) resolution.
