So I was doodling for a couple hours and the program decided to quit on me. Of course with hours of work flushed down the drain I got angry, but I also kinda thought of something. What if when that happens the program automatically saves what ever you where working on. I don't know if it is possible, but it wouldn't just save time of redoing all that work, but actually be helpful.

but krita does save your file every 5 minutes , provided you saved the file atleast once before.

Typically a program that crashes does not have the means to execute some sort of backup behavior, since it is currently crashing.

However most applications that offer to "create" something offer an "auto save" feature that makes a periodic backup of the current state of whatever you create. Typically you can configure the frequency. That should suit your needs.
