It sometimes happens when editing video for a client that some changes are necessary after sending an initial version. One of the problems with going back over a project and making alterations is that sections of a clip in the timeline may have been deleted many operations before.

A thought came to me that it would be very useful if the option existed to 'cloak' unwanted sections of a clip, rather than removing them altogether. In other words, to leave them visible on the timeline, but include an instruction to the renderer not to use that part. Would that not be possible? Sections marked as 'deleted' are not of course actually deleted from the original clip, just marked 'not to be used', so it would hardly seem a huge change. The difference would be that a 'cloaked' section might later be uncloaked again, without having to undo a list of edits all the way back to that point.

This wouldn't help if the editor needed to move sections of a clip were around after deleting parts, but in cases where editing means synchronising a set of several clips shot simultaneously on different cameras, no movement of clip parts is usually wanted anyway.

I appreciate this would not be useful to anyone working in a different way, but for this specific use case, the result would be the ability to make changes to an already completed edit much more efficiently.

As far as I am aware, this feature doesn't so far exist, but please let me know if I'm wrong - I'd love to use it!
