Suggestion: Type Tools

Sat Nov 14, 2015 10:15 pm
I wanted to suggest that new fonts should be added to the software. Also make it in a way so the user can add more font files to the software. I mean since there is a type tool there, so why not make something even better out of it right?

Which software?
Do you mean KDE's software in general? That is already available - you can download font files and install them by finding them in a file manager and either opening them up for preview and hitting the Install button, or right-clicking them and selecting Actions -> Install.
Once installed the font can be selected for general use in (kde4) System Settings -> Application Appearance -> Fonts; or from within specific applications using that application's configuration dialogs.

If you mean some specific application(s), those generally use the list of installed fonts, please mention if there are any specific applications which may need particular attention in this regard.

Lastly, do you have suggestions for specific fonts or styles of fonts to add to the software collection? Such suggestions would probably best be served in the Visual Design forum.

I meant the Krita software. I don't know if KDE means Krita, but yeah that software needs fonts. I also had a question.

Is it possible to download fonts from dafont.com and install those fonts to Krita? I know it is specifically used for Photoshop but I just wanted to make sure before I try anything crazy.

If not then I would suggest making some very cool looking fonts like these (these are all from the site I mentioned earlier in this message):

http://www.dafont.com/curse-of-the-zombie.font

http://www.dafont.com/martyric.font

http://www.dafont.com/barbarian.font

http://www.dafont.com/creator-campotype-smcp.font

The fonts don't have to look exactly like this but it's just a general idea of how they can look.

Krita is an application build using KDE libraries. It takes its list of fonts from those installed on the system.

As mentioned, you can certainly download the fonts you like from whatever sites you like and then install them by opening up a (dolphin) file manager, opening the font file and hitting the install button in the preview window. Alternatively, you can select multiple font files, right click -> Actions -> Install.

Once installed, (re)start Krita and you will be able to select the new fonts from the list.

(actually, thinking about it, there really isn't anything KDE-specific about any of this, except perhaps the availability of the Install action in the right-click menu)
