Many programs (Apper is one) display text which cannot be selected with the mouse. This is particularly irksome with unexpected error messages, which might take some research to figure out. If I cannot copy the text to the clipboard, I either copy it manually or rely on memory - both of which are less reliable than using the clipboard.

If this proposal is accepted it may take some time to update a lot of programs; but I suspect that if a few library routines are altered, then many programs would just need rebuilding.

Unfortunately the visualization of run time errors is typically done by the UI code, not by some library, since no library has access to the GUI elements.
