I do not know if this is the right place for this type of request! In practice in this image I try to choose a file to be displayed on VLC, in this case if the folder in which there are files I'm looking there are many files, it would be nice to have a filter to search for the file by name! of course my example was done with VLC, but the same thing happens with any window of a program that has the "open file" function! For example, if you do the same thing that I've done with VLC in Microsoft Windows, there is a window similar to this but with a very handy search box to filter the files if they are many, and help you find what you seek

I completely agree, but your title is wrong: what you are talking about is not Dolphin, but the KDE file picker that opens in any app; Dolphin already has a filter tool (menu button, Tools/Show filter bar, or just Ctrl+I). Would be quite useful to have the same function in the file picker, yes. In the meantime, notice that you can filter in the file picker, more roughly, just typing the first letters in the text box that reads «Name», which will show only those files that start with those letters, and also by file type in the «Filter» box, below the former. It's not as powerful as the function in Dolphin, which permits to search file with letters in any place, not just the begining, but it's better than nothing. If you don't get a response from developers in some weeks, I encourage you to ask for that feature in https://bugs.kde.org, because the developers don't pay much attention to this forums. |
