When MarkPartial is ON (it is by default), it appends ".part" extension to a file which is being uploaded remotely. When this file is fully uploaded it is renamed so it no longer has this ".part" extension. It is a great feature and major remote protocols use it (ftp, sftp, smb...). Unfortunately some remote servers do not support renaming (or otherwise misbehave) so I think we need an option to switch it off.
There is an original review request here: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/127154/. The review request contains a diff which would add a persistent global MarkPartial option to the plasma settings (System Settings -> Network: Settings -> Connection Preferences). Note that there already is "Mark partially uploaded files" option specific for FTP. Suggestions: 1) My first suggestion covered in mentioned diff was to add "Global Options" to Connection Preferences with "Mark partially uploaded files" checkbox. 2) After some discussion in mentioned review request: Enable user to specify the exact hostname/ip addres for disabling MarkPartial (some kind of wireframe included in the review request). But this would lead to overblown configuration dialog... 3) Temporary global MarkPartial off-switch (e.g. through some systray icon or some kind of session settings) which would disable mark partial globally for current session only. 4) ??? We were not sure how to approach this issue so I'm writing this brainstorm post. Thanks! |
