Default Applications

Currently the list of default applications that you can assign is really limited.
There is an option to assign a program to specific filename patterns why is there no option to see what kind of filename patterns this application can use and choose where it'll be default?

Its possible to leave current entries in Default Applications on top and then make some underscore line under which we'll simply see a list of installed applications. Then clicking on any of them we'll see all file types it can be associated with, add some if they're not there, remove and have checkboxes near each to make this application default choice for a specific fyle type and a global checkbox so that for all listed file types this application could become default one.

OR

to put it in the same window with File Assosiation. Maybe it will be even better there, here is a little mockup:
