I use Kate all the time for document editing and BASH/PHP script authoring. But there is something missing, something I'd love to see added to Kate: editor timestamps.
I can use Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z to undo/redo edits but several thousand lines in from a dodgy edit and undo/redo just doesn't help. Being able to view timestamps next to line numbers and to sort lines by timestamps would be incredibly useful. What I'd really like to see Kate evolve into is a 3 dimensional editor. Though this would take up a lot of space over time if Kate automatically spawned document 'branches' at each revision the feature would make Kate an incredibly powerful editor. For example, if I have a document of 100 words which I edit beginning at word 50, were Kate to create a document branch for the new edit and elevate the new branch as the main trunk I would be able to undo edits within the trunk document by using undo/redo as well as be able to revisit the earlier document for review or to revise it without affecting the main document. I can see a lot of scope and many use cases for this. Who do I speak with to develop the idea into a component of Kate? |
