Having context menu entries for push, pull, checkout and create tag for popular version control systems like GIT or Subversion is nice but it still leaves a lot to be desired.
It is not much better than the console work it replaces. A "git pull" is rather simple and still can be done on the terminal. The more advanced stuff is where it gets interesting for a GUI. Tortoise has a great Graphic overview for the log with the ability to reset to a certain commit, rebase on different branches, cherry pick commits &edit & squash them. It integrates well with the native Windows Explorer. I would love to see more of its features in the VCS Dolphin plugin. The only thing where TortoiseGIT & Co can be improved further is account management if you have multiple repositories , hosters , logintypes and logins that may or may not partially overlap , especially if Github is involved. The lack of Tortoise for Linux one of the showstoppers here for me to be finally able to ditch windows completely. I hope something can be done here. |

kdesvn does a great job of filling in the gap for svn usage: providing various menus, dialogs and things for commit logs, working copy operations, repo checkouts, merges, repo browsing w/KIO, etc. It'd be great to incorporate more of that into dolphin itself, as well as extend that to other VCS's, especially Git.

This topic is still a big issue for a complete move to Linux for me.
