I would like to have feature to display translated name of directory. Translated name will be saved in .directory file and user must activate to see it in Dolphin. Of course, normal name will be always visible, translated name is only optional.
The section will look like below:

What would that mean for using file paths inside that file system?
I see a great wave of confusion when a folder is not really named the way it is clearly shown... |

Translated name will not be displayed as a part of path, but only below directory icon.

That does not prevent the issue I mentioned. If a user sees a folder "name" then the intuitive assumption is that this is indeed the folders name and thus that that is the name that defines its location inside the file system tree. This will definitely lead to issues and tons of confused users. I could imagine showing such a translation in a tooltip (mouse hovering) over an entry, but that is the most I would like to accept. Confusion in a GUI is a thing that has to be prevented at all costs. |
