I like kicker menu but recently I discovered Tiled Menu:
https://store.kde.org/p/1160672/ Unfortunately I don't like this scroll like menu - I mean that I need to scroll down a list to find an app . I thought it would be great to combine the two, I mean to have kicker menu with tiles - I imagine instead of this vertical panel with favourite shortcuts in kicker - to have tiles on the left and on the right a tree view. Or the same in kickoff - in favourites tab - instead of favourites as a list, tiles. What is great about these tiles that they can be sorted manually in order the user want. I am sure there would be users who would love it. I contacted both developers of tiled menu and kicker but they don't have time nor intention to change their original menus, so I thought that someone who like the idea can do it as a separate project. |

That's scarily Windows10-esk. Personally my biggest usability challenge with kickoff is its slow animations and transition effects. Although I do think pinning like in your picture would be useful.
