Hi,
This is my first time posting anything on the KDE forums but I had this Idea that made it impossible to resist... Desktop folder view is back. But it still is the same old desktop. What if there was some way to link the desktop folder to the Present Working Directory, which more often than not isn't the desktop directory. Here is the list of features I feel would be awesome and take productivity to the next level.
[*]By PWD I mean the current directory in which I am working right now ( the root of the Java project etc.). It would be awesomely productive to have the main thing as the desktop and doing stuff on top of it. It could take KDE productivity along a new path. [*]I might have committed many sins writing this post by getting the technicalities wrong especially with the meaning of the term PWD, but I hope people will forgive that and that I have been able to get my idea through. |

Why did you not use Activities? On each activity you could use different directory for desktop/folderview and you could connect each file to selected activity.

Perhaps creating new activity from directory could be good idea. You go in dolphin to directory with you project and click create activity for current directory.
What happens? For each file type (graphic, text, music, etc.) could be created plasmoids, grouped by grouping plasmoid(each image plasmoid will be put into image grouping plasmoid, text plasmoid into notes grouping plasmoid, etc.) and folderview with path to project directory will be created. Also, we could create many folderview, each to filter different file types: program code, README-COPYRIGHT-INSTALL-LICENSE, data, graphics, etc.

Wonderful Idea. Activities will make more sense, become more accessible, and it will be wonderful if we could do everything without complicating it too much. |
