Currently the ruler can be used to draw straigt lines. But holding down v does the same. The ruler should actually do what a ruler was made for: showing the distance between two points. The measuring-tool can do that, but it disappeares, if i want to draw. So the best way to do is to merge these two tools. Measuring and then be able to draw a straight line to a desired point.
