[krunner] Some misc ideas

Sat Jul 08, 2017 10:43 am
Some misc ideas I've had over the past few months:
  • Tab key to move to next category instead of next file. For example, pressing Tab three times would go from Applications, to Folders, to Audio, to Images. This lets you quickly navigate to the category that has the result you want. Then press the up and down keys to select the file.
  • If you hold the Ctrl key when clicking files, krunner should stay open while launching the program or document in the background. That way you can open multiple files easily at once. For example, if I search "cat photo" and "cat photo 1", "cat photo 2", "cat photo 3", etc show up, I can hold down Ctrl and click on each file individually, opening them in separate processes.
  • Right click should really do something for when you right click a document. Ideally, it would display the same context menu you get in Dolphin. That way, I can search for a document, then right click to copy the file, delete it, open it with a specific application or "Other..." application (which is extremely useful in those random circumstances), etc. Right now the options are very limited. The only choice is to open the file with left click.
  • The width of krunner should be adjustable. I think it's often too small for displaying long paths and long filenames. There could just be a simple option to let the user decide the width.

Hope someone finds these ideas useful.

Second Idea

I voted up.

Instead a second idea, I prefer Open KRunner Results In Dolphin Windows option, but maybe it needs to write new KIO plugin.
