Change the theme based on daytime

Tue Jul 25, 2017 4:37 pm
Hi guys, I have a question and an idea =)

I was searching in the web and in this forum as well for an automated option to change the general theme for plasma 5 (color scheme, plasma widgets theme, icons theme and mouse theme) but I didn't find anything

I was wondering, is there a way to make it thru a bash script?

I know that I can run kcmshell5 from the terminal and call colors, style and etc to get quick access to options of the system config, but what I'm lookig for is to make it automatic, without the need to open any window to configure those themes

Also, how do I save my current look and fell (desktop layout), so I can try other layouts without having to configure manually all over?

Thanks

Lachu: do you mind linking the case? Times have changed and perhaps people's opinions have too. What you described sounds like functionality I've seen provided in a number of Android Launchers over the years.

The behavior described by this request reminds me of the behavior of the Red Shift plasmoid which I believe adjusts the color settings of the monitor throughout the day. This would take that a step or two further with not just changing the monitor color settings, but switching to different look-and-feel settings at different times through the day.

You should be able to accomplish that by setting the bash script which changes the theme, etc. to run daily using the Task Schedule module in System Settings.

Yes, it's something like that, but with the desktop theme and color scheme...

Well, I've searched throw out the forums and internet but I couldn't find a place that point me how to build this script (which libs to call and how to send args to them)

Do you know where can I find it or how to accomplish it?

Thanks

P.s.: If succeeded, I'll share the script here

=)
