Tiling windows

Wed Dec 06, 2017 4:30 am
I want to focus my work on keyboard for more productivity. I like vim and tiling window manager, like i3wm/sway, and I want similar tilling in Plasma. Plasma have tilling but it is limited. I know that is possible to use some script or totally replace kwin with i3wm and make it to work, but that is not easy and elegant, beside scripts don't have guaranty to they will work after Plasma updates.
I don't know what will be proper solution, my suggestion is to kwin have Tiling options in Placement settings for window management. If user chose Tiliing, then will be opened additional settings, for shortcuts and additional options. It will be nice to have most of i3wm features but it is not necessary. Splitting windows vertically/horizontally and moving/arrange they will be enough for me.
I have experience only with i3wm for tiling window manager, but maybe other tiling window managers have more appropriate and easier features to implement in Plasma.
I know tiling features are kind of niche, but maybe some of tilling window manager users will come to Plasma if that features are available.
