Various things which are lacking

Sun Feb 25, 2018 6:28 am
I really enjoy using plasma 5 however there are a few gripes and simple things lacking which would turn plasma into a more feature full desktop and the changeset isn't at all too sophisticated or much of a cornercase, rather its something Windows and Mac have which are really basic and fundamental things.

-Event Notifications and Actions -> add more event items: attached devices USB devices, VGA or HDMI monitors, RJ45 jack connection uplink, wireless connection established and SDcard reader card detection

-Currently the events for power managment are slow, must wait about 4 seconds for event to work (get notification sound) for laptop AC adapter connection and disconnection

-Allow for web shortcuts to be functional for most popular web browsers not just KDEs default browser

as a serious note it is really suggested to completely drop and quit integrating systemd, it will ruin the whole desktop by making it unsafe to use, systemd has serious security issues.

On the web shortcuts feature, I have it set up so that I can use the web shortcuts in KRunner and it will resolve the shortcut and open the URL in the default web browser (Firefox) (I'm still on Plasma 4, though I would hope you can still do this in Plasma 5). I wouldn't expect the browsers themselves to respect KDE's web shortcuts as each has its own mechanism for that (usually called search engines?).

That totally depends on your distribution. KDE runs as happily with systemd as it does without.
