Fast Resize window!

Wed Mar 28, 2018 11:49 pm
I would like a more faster way to resize windows instead to click boarders!

I think that resize a window is very important thing but we don't do it as much as we should because it's not a fast enough process.

Each windows could have a Fast resize area and when right mouse clicked would open a "subwindow" to faster move and resize window like in following image:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/pdTEAhGDCRUUJcXd2

There could be a line of buttons under that "subwindow" as shortcuts to predefined sizes too.

You would have bigger areas to fast click and drag to resize(or move) the window! That's an idea, may be there could be some better ideas but the process of resize a window should be remade in some way to make it faster.

Another option that can be good is something like to click and hold both mouse buttons close to window boarders the mouse pointer automatically snap to the edges for you to resize it.

I think window manipulation should be a lot more faster and intuitive. This is one thing thats is not good enough since the first graphical user interface in the world and nobody have paid enough attention to it.

By default you should be able to use Alt + Right-click-and-drag to resize windows from anywhere inside the window (configurable in System Settings -> Window Behavior -> Window Behavior -> Window Actions).

For resizing to pre-defined sizes, you can drag windows to the top of the screen for fullsize, the left and right edges for half-screen and the corners for quarter-screen.

You may also be interested in the KWin Tiling script which can be useful for resizing windows in various tiled arrangements.

This "Alt + right click" is good. If I can remap my mouse extra button to act as "Alt + right click" this would give me a super fast resize capability Im looking for.

Drag the window to top for full size is the only shortcut that I think is not necessary and not good enough because you have Maximize button in the window.

I would prefer that drag to top could make the window in some predefined user chosen size.

Is there also a key to disable this drag to boarders shortcuts when I want to?

Thanks.

I think the only option available for disabling that quick tile behavior is to just disable it outright under Desktop Behavior -> Screen Edges -> Tile windows by dragging them to the side of the screen. Of course that behavior is only triggered when dragging the window to one of the screen edges, so if you want to move the window aside without triggering it, just don't move the window away from the edge slightly so that the preview rectangle disappears before releasing.

Again I'd recommend you take a look at that Kwin Tiling script, as I would assume that you should be able to change it to suit your needs if using it as-is isn't sufficiently helpful.
