I'm wondering if it could possible to implement animated icons for dolphin previews.
In the case, thumbnails could be small GIFs that animate when mouse-over to give a fast preview without play it in the preview panel. Nowadays youtube implements this feature in the proposed videos list (and many others do it from some year). The thumbnail could show small parts of the videos picked randomly, or only key-frames... but the algorithm is not related to the availability in dolphin of animate GIFs! |

I think this could be also applied to movies, but there should be option to disable/enable this feature for movies.

Already implemented
The KDE is using kio to thumbnail files. Kio Thumbcreator: https://api.kde.org/frameworks/kio/html ... eator.html and there is the ThumbSequenceCreator: https://api.kde.org/frameworks/kio/html ... eator.html
Earlier the mplayerthumbs plugin did make sequence of thumbnails - and the Dolphin did show them: With the KF5 the mplayerthumbs has been dropped - https://marc.info/?t=145864980000001&r=1&w=2 . |

Thanks! So it is already supported by dolphin...
Do you think it is possible to ask ffmpegthumbs (or any other video thumbnailer) developers to implement this feature? |
