I'm a user, not a programmer but I had an idea this morn. Specify which virtual desktop shows after the lockscreen.
Currently I divide my professional and personal activities. For example I use multiple browsers. This one is for work only. Full of bookmarks for websites important to my job. Also stores passwords and history that are work only. A second browser does the same for personal stuff - distractions, stuff I read when I need a few minutes respite or during my lunch hour. I do the same with email programs. Recently I've started using separate virtual desktops. I don't have a situation where anyone can see my screens or where someone might unexpectedly walk up behind me however mentally it is easier to put the work browser and work email on one virtual desktop, and the "play" browser, music player (usually Clementine) and so forth on the second virtual desktop. I'd like to have the ability to have the desktops "reset" or "default" to desktop 1 if I haven't used the computer in an adjustable amount of time and when I put in my password on the lock screen to unlock the computer. Some really clever person can probably do this with the tools already built into KDE but I can not. That's my suggestion. Thanks for KDE everyone. |

Take a look at KDE's "activities". A similar concept to virtual desktops, but kind of another layer on top of it. You could have one activity for professional work, one for private stuff, both having some desktops in them. You can switch between activities using a keyboard shortcut.
