KDE Better MultiMonitor support

Tue Nov 20, 2018 10:14 am
Hello!

I am pretty new to KDE and Linux but I've started using it on my work laptop and have had issues with activity settings not being kept when using the laptop at work with multiple monitors and at home without them.

I've searched the internet and there doesn't seem to be a proper solution to this, so I started thinking about one. I assumed that all the settings of KDE are stored in text files, and we are able to detect the unique ID of a monitor, so, in my head at least, the solution should not be that hard to implement.

Each time a new monitor is detected a new file with its settings would be created and the file is updated and changed when we change a setting for it or for the activity it is running. Then on any monitor connect or disconnect we would need to do a refresh. We list the currently available monitors and fetch the stored settings file (unfortunately I do not currently know in what file(s) the settings are stored).

Since the different settings can be in multiple files the best option here would be to unify all the settings that are separate between monitors. This may imply changes to the core of which I know nothing about but am willing to learn.

So, does this seem like something that would interest people?
