I've just discovered, that my favorite feature of DuckDuckGo: bangs is integrated in KRunner!!!
In KDE they're called WebShortcuts and I would really love them if there was just one tiny additional feature: What are bangs/web shortcuts? Bangs and WebShortcuts can both be used to directly search on certain webpages. Let's suppose I type "!yt cat videos" into DDG or "yt:cat videos" into KRunner, then I'll directly search on Youtube for cat videos. What can be improved? DuckDuckGo's bangs are superior to KDE webshortcuts since they can be used to access webpages extremely quick. If I type for instance "!yt" into DuckDuckGo (i'm not providing a search query) then I'll land directly on YouTube's home page. This feature could also be implemented for KRunner. We could add a "homepage" property to each webshortcut. If the query is empty, then this page would be opened. If non was provided we could at least open the defined url and replace the query placeholder against an empty string like DuckDuckGo does. The latter would be really easy to implement. This would result in running "yt:" opening youtube's homepage. |
