Unix (and Windows in some cases) allows to create hard link/symbolic link, but that link is a part of directory.
I think it could be great to create relations between two files, like newer version, older version, another branch, notes about movie i watch. People don't like to keep order in directory structure, so link file to file + relation description could be great (as I wrote previously). For additional examples: - I can add to movie link provides localized text (dialogs) - I can add additional notes to each file with description and name of description, like main.c will have todo relation with list of things to do (I know currently I can set description, but this is not the same) - You could create a new archive format, which also keep file links to file, so I can extract source code, open properties of file and read: "To compile:" "Open terminal in project's directory and type make" -(content of readme file) it requires also to import data from selected file to baloo - When I attach some file to e-mail, like photography, Kmail could also asks me to attach all linked file also (anyway - it should asks for attach file description now) - Each program could show list of linked files, when I opened master file, and asks me to open also related files What do you think?
