Usually backward indentation for the whole line is ok, but when I want to indent forwards, 90% of the times is to make colums more appealing.
This is how notepad++ does it. Without using space (slower, no column alignment), it is not possible using kate So please, add a shortcut to allow indentation after cursor. |

Kate handling of the Tab key should be configurable in Settings > Configure Kate > Editor Component > Editing > Indentation > Indentation Actions. There should be options for Always advance to the next tab position, Always increase indentation level and Increase indentation level if in leading blank space. It sounds like you probably want the 3rd option, but the 2nd is selected. (the More ... hint offers the following suggestion: "If you want Tab to align the current line in the current code block like in emacs make Tab a shortcut to the action Align").
If these are insufficient, please describe in more detail the behavior you want to see and how these options are deficient (keeping in mind that we're not necessarily going to be familiar with other tools). (another thought, if you are switching from Windows would be to try Notepadqq instead, which is designed to be a Notepad++-like editor for the Linux desktop)

Ah, you were right. Don't know how could I have missed that. Though in notepad++ you can backwards unindent without changing the whole line. Well, everything is now right, thanks you.
[EDIT] Darn, aparently it uses tabsm which is a no-no for me, and it cannot be swapped. |
