Since firewire was dropped from Kdenlive, it has been a hassle to try and find a way to capture from a Mini DV camera and I know this has been a problem for many users, however, I have overcome this problem, I now capture my Mini DV files to my computer using an Easy Cap capture card and the results are good, I can then transfer the files to my editing suite, I hope this will help people with the same problem.
