Many newbies often lose one's files, because he/she doesn't remember, where it was saved. Other newbies save everything on the desktop or home directory. So - if you don't use your computer often, why you should perform any organization? Does desktop provide technologies to organize your data automatically? In my opinion it did, so read.

Plasma offers timeline and it's exposed in dolphin's. But some people may hide left panel (places panel) and to focus user to often use timeline, you should place directory called timeline on the desktop.
This directory should contains: documents created today, documents created yesterday, documents created earlier, documents modified today, documents modified yesterday, documents modified earlier, music saved today, ... , music save earlier, music listen today, ..., music listen earlier (the same for video), etc.

So:
User don't have to wrote document on the desktop and creating a mess (there's people, whom documents on desktop overload other documents), but could save document (for example) in ~/Documents/My Big Project/description.odf . When I open my PC tomorrow, I only go to ~/Desktop/Timeline/documents created yesterday.

Simple?
