Kate offers two different search functions with slightly different feature sets, Find and Search and Replace. (For example, Search and Replace cannot search and replace in a selection only, even when the search mode is In Current File.)
There are three widgets in the left lower corner. One of them, Search and Replace, will open the Search and Replace function. There is none however to open Find. For that, you need to use a keyboard shortcut or the menu. Search and Replace can be opened via keyboard shortcut or the menu. In the menu, it is inconsistently named "Search in Files" (which imo is the better description). Confusingly, even when you are used to Kate, both Find and Search and Replace can be open at the same time. My suggestion is to change this as follows: 1. Add a Find widget to the lower left. (I'm not sure what that area is called, it's below the status bar. 2. Change both "Search and Replace" and "Search in Files" to "Search/Replace in Files". 3. Make the Find and Search and Replace bars exclusive, so only one is shown at the same time. |
