Regarding the default Kickoff in plasma 5.21. Although I like some things like the new grid presentation of the favorites icons, and also the option of being able to configure the "main actions" (energy / session), or if you want the tabs to change automatically when hovering over them (like kickoff-grid)
However, I do not like that the first thing you see is a complete list of categories of the applications next to the favorites (it distracts and takes up space unnecessarily), I also do not like the fact that the "History" and "Computer" options have been hidden within the "Places" tab, much less the one that you cannot configure the order in which you want to see them. In that sense, Kickoff-Grid is more minimalist and functional (by allowing more configuration options). I think that it would work better if at least in the section of the categories of applications the width of the column could be configured (or left it as only icons), and also be able to reorder the options in the "Places" tab. |

You do know that there are several other launchers you can choose from, don't you?
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Yes, I know, I am actually using the older version. I am simply saying that the changes made to the official version are incomplete, for the reasons I mentioned. For that reason I wrote it here, and I did not raise it as a problem, but as a suggestion. (And perhaps the criticism is only in the fact that the new menu is so similar to Windows 10, without major functional contributions) |
