I frequently use kstart to start applications on my Linux desktop. It has a lot of great options to control what virtual desktop is used, etc.
However, it doesn't address activities. An example of the problem I'm running into: I start my password safe. It defaults to running in the current activity. I switch activities and do some work, then I need to access my password safe. When I do so, KDE takes me out of my current activity and puts me in the one my password safe was launched in. This doesn't break anything, but it's disorienting and annoying. I could solve this particular problem if I could launch my password safe as part of "all activities". Now, I have to remember to do that manually after it is running. I am open to other solutions for this as long as I don't have to become an expert in something intricate like kwin commands. I do a lot of work with bash and am reasonably fluent in it, so using something like kstart seems like a natural solution to me. BTW, I have never seen kstart documented anywhere. Luckily, --help works. |

Does Password Safe hide window and display tray icon? For windows, you can click on it's icon in titlebar and select activity to display it.

You could add a general rule for this application using the title bars context menu, more actions, special settings for this application.
In the opening popup add the property Activities, select force and all activities. So every time you start it or an instance, it will be forced visible on all activities. |

Yes. That's what I do now, but I have to do it every time I launch it or a similar application. |

And did you read above (koffeinfriedhof's) post? It seems it is correct solution. One thing in this solution is KWin change activity, when window assigned to destination activity is created.

Well, that was a trip! This appears to be exactly what I want, with one small problem. Every time I click on Special Settings, it's all over. My keyboard doesn't work and even my clock icon stops updating. I've had to reboot around four times so far! I think I'll wait until I upgrade to 20.04 or newer before I try that again. Thanks. |
