I recently discovered the ClassikStyles customizable Window Decoration + Application Style project by paulmcauley. I would like to propose that KDE adopt and support this project. In over ten years of using KDE, I have never seen a window decorations project that I thought needed to be a core part of KDE until now.
I support Linux on the desktop for a team at work, most of whom are not tech savvy. Around the year 2011, I switched everyone over to KDE and we have been staying on the near-latest version since then. Like most KDE users, I personally value KDE's great customization. But I also have the perspective of supporting KDE for people who have never used Linux before (and don't even know what it is.) I have personally introduced hundreds of people to KDE (and installed it for them) and nearly all of them continue using KDE today. As someone who supports a large number of KDE desktops in a work environment, the last thing I ever expected was to be installing any custom theme elements for everyone I support. I prefer standardization. However, our entire company needs to be running ClassikStyles, and it would be ideal to have it officially supported by KDE. ClassikStyles is the only solution I have found in over ten years that enables the precise window functionality our team needs to get the most out of KDE. After just a short time using ClassikStyles, our team can't imagine having to use KDE without it. Here are two links that cover the features and functionality of ClassikStyles. GitHub - paulmcauley/classikstyles: ClassikStyles is a highly customizable binary Window Decoration and Application Style plugin for recent versions of the KDE Plasma desktop. It provides the Classik, Kite, Oxygen/Breeze, and Redmond icon styles. ClassikStyles customizable Window Decoration + Application Style v2.6 released : kde What may not be obvious from the list of features is the fact that ClassikStyles is not just about styling. It is about customization and functionality. It enables very important functionality that enhances the productivity and usability of KDE in ways that cannot be accomplished with Breeze. Yet ClassikStyles allows my team to keep the styling elments of Breeze that we have become accustomed to. Others may like ClassikStyles entirely for its style, but I am advocating that KDE officially support it because of the esssential customization and functionality it provides -- customization and functionality which are missing from Breeze. |
